Two singers met and found it was so much fun singing together that they just couldn't stop. At the same time, a nyckelharpist and a guitarist sat playing until the strings glowed and the bow smoked. The story could have stopped there, if it wasn't for the strange feeling they all had. Certainly it felt good, but unfinished somehow...until they all met and four became one.
The group consists of two folk singers from northern and central Sweden (Å®germanland and Dalecarlia), a world champion nyckelharpist (keyed-fiddle) from the southernmost tip of Sweden (S kåne), and a guitarist from the capital city of Stockholm. This powerful foursome met while in music school in Stockholm. Ranarim began with a tour of northern Norway in 1997 and it whet their appetite! Their repertoire is taken from the rich treasure of Swedish folk music as a whole, not specializing in any particular region. Rhythmic tunes and peculiar melodies from the Middle Ages that tell exciting stories inspire the group to make music. Some songs are traditional, some newly composed, and together the group develops the final arrangements to create the distinctive sound of Ranarim.
